Biography

American photojournalist Holly Pickett was a staff photographer at the Spokesman-Review newspaper in Spokane, Wash., before moving to Cairo, Egypt, to freelance in January 2008. In 2013, she relocated to Istanbul, Turkey, and since 2017, she is based in NYC, USA. She works in the Middle East, Central Asia, Europe, and North America.
Holly has documented news and feature stories in Afghanistan, Libya, Yemen, Iraq, Tunisia, Jordan, Turkey, Lebanon, Oman, Gaza, Morocco, all over Egypt, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Guinea-Bissau, Burkina Faso, and USA. She and a colleague received a Pulitzer Travel Grant in 2014 to produce a series of stories about Syrian refugees in Greece, Germany, Sweden, and Russia. Holly's work has appeared in The New York Times, TIME, Newsweek, The New Yorker, Stern, NPR.org, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, Elle, The Guardian, The New Republic, The Times (London), Los Angeles Times, Financial Times, The Sunday Telegraph, The National (Abu Dhabi), Christian Science Monitor, and Sueddeutsche Zeitung.
