An award winning photojournalist, Shmuel Thaler has worked as a staff photographer at the Santa Cruz Sentinel in Santa Cruz, California since 1987. Shmuel graduated from the film school at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in 1982 and has won more than 100 photography awards including prizes in the prestigious National Press Photographers Association’s Best of Photojournalism contest in 2006 and 2007. He has illustrated or co-authored 8 books, most notably, the children’s’ classics, ‘Pumpkin Circle’ and ‘Photography – Take Your Best Shot’. He has been president of the California Press Photographers Association and currently sits on the board of the San Francisco Bay Area Press Photographers Association. He lives in Santa Cruz with his favorite subjects – wife Kathy and daughters Kayla and Hannah.
