I teach photojournalism, documentary work, ethics & legal issues for photographers, picture editing & page layout, and other courses as opportunities arise. Whenever I can, I have built my courses around social issues and community service, understanding events and stories with insight into larger frames

For several years I photographed extensively at a correctional facility for juveniles and taught a photography class as a volunteer there, and a large part of my work has continued to address children and crime, the criminal justice system, and larger issues related to youth and violence. I've photographed, written about and worked with homeless people and those around them. The issues related to chronic homelessness are complex; my work attempts to explore the complexities as well as to help individuals share their experiences and environments. I've photographed migrant workers in the upstate NY area and continue to work with immigrant groups, but most recently I've returned to issues related to incarceration. Specifically, I'm working with people who have been incarcerated but are trying to rebuild their lives and return to the communities and families from which they left.
