I am student photojournalist at California State University, Long Beach. I am majoring in journalism, with a minor in anthropology.
I joined in the U.S. Marine Corps in 2005 at the age of 20, and was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal in 2010. My military occupational specialty (MOS) was 0311 (infantry) and 8152 (security forces Marine). I served with 1st Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team (FAST) Company in Norfolk, Va., and deployed with First platoon to Spain for seven months. Later, I was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 9th Marines in Camp Lejeune, N.C. I deployed with 3/9 to Iraq in 2009. Military training I received included combat trauma training, mountain warfare, close quarters battle, and helicopter insertions.
I bought my fist camera while I was in the Marines, and fell in love with taking pictures. When I was discharged and began school, I found journalism - both visual and written - to be my passion.
