Andre N. Zandona
I was born and raised in Sao Paulo, Brazil. My academic track has taken me through a BS in Molecular Biology from the University of California San Diego to my current work on a Master's in Social Work from the Smith School for Social Work. Throughout this diversity of academic studies, photography has been my constant. My participation in scientific studies was often focused on histological techniques and microscopy work related to stem cell and neurobiology.
Currently photography is part of my day-to-day work as a freelance photojournalist and as a social worker in training. As a freelance photojournalist I appreciate the power of visual storytelling and as a social worker in training, I am starting to explore the use of photography and the power of storytelling as a means of self expression and empowerment for individuals in marginalized communities.
