Owner, PhillCooke Photography
I was born and raised in Connecticut. I attended Santa Monica College's Photography program.Ive been into photography for the past 7 years but just recently decided to finish my degree. I majored in Photography with an emphasis in photojournalism. I don't like to create art forms from my photos, I like to find it in life. Just life like recreations in vivid "Life Like" colors. I'm currently working on my BA in photojournalism. I like to travel and take photos. I love all the arts. My goal is to do hard hitting news but I'm always expanding my possibilities and taking on new forms and adventures. I spent several years overseas in the military. I have a bag with hundreds of film photos.
My father got me seriously into photography, I always owned a point and shoot but never thought of it as more then a small hobbie. After a bad breakup with a ex I was in a slump and didn't want to do anything. I majored in biology at the time but it grew boring to me. In an attempt to cheer me up my father asked me to help him film a short he was working on. He had large sony video camera but wanted something lighter to shoot on location with so he purchased a Canon T2i DLSR. I fell in love with photography and purchased my first semi pro camera, a Canon 40D DLSR at the time, and headed up to San Francisco for Christmas to get away and just shoot photos.
I was always fascinated with journalism and found myself shooting for the Santa Monica Corsair Newspaper. While there i was given the opportunity to branch out and shoot all types from portrait to events. I currently work with a small company based in D.C. called IdealPR Media as a staff photographer shooting in Los Angeles. I take my camera with me wherever i go and try to find the beauty around me. One of my favorite lines is from a Australian photo group "If you can't find beauty in your own backyard what makes you think you'll find it somewhere else."
Looking to do more journalism but always open to new projects.
