Staff Photographer, The Grand Island Independent
Matt Dixon is a photographer currently at the Grand Island Independent in Nebraska where he joined the staff in the summer of 2011. Before coming to the Cornhusker State, Matt interned at the Flint Journal in Michigan after earning a degree in communication studies at Marquette University in Wisconsin.
While growing up in Westchester, New York, Matt had a periodic interest in photography throughout childhood. After inquiring about having one of his photos published in The Warrior at Marquette, Matt was coaxed into becoming a photographer for the student-run paper. The challenge and excitement of shooting Division I basketball on the floor of the Bradley Center was one of the first experiences that began to fuel an obsession.
Besides being a photographer who can write a bio in the third person, Matt is also a weight-loss champion, a reliable dog sitter and an Eagle Scout. His interests include music, food, collecting junk and going on bike rides.
