Award-winning photojournalist Tanya Ackerman captures images with her camera that portray the beauty of South Carolina’s Low Country and the passions of the people who live there. The stories and emotions Ackerman shares through her photography have earned her scores of accolades during her newspaper career. The South Carolina Press Association named her Photojournalist of the Year in the All Weekly Newspaper Division three times since she moved to Pawleys Island as a staff photographer for the Coastal Observer in 2006.
Ackerman received a degree in photojournalism from Kent State University and worked for six years as a staff photographer at The Greenville News, in Greenville, S.C. She relocated to Pawleys Island and focused her lens on this coastal community and its people to document the impact of encroaching development on a piece of the fabric of American life.
