Ted A. Irving began television his career as a cable-grip and camera man for John Crowe Productions of Houston, then moved on to become a news editor for ABC KTRK Houston during the summer of 1993, editing stories for Marvin Zindler’s restaurant reports, Wayne Dolcefino’s investigative reports, Melanie Lawson, Gina Gaston, and many others. Ted provided contract video news editing for KPRC NBC two in 1995 and worked full-time as a news editor and sports photographer for KRIV Fox 26 Houston from 1996 to 1999. As sports photographer, Ted interviewed many professional athletes such as Kobe Bryant, Shaq, Charles Barkley, Hakeem Olajuwon, Grant Hill and many others. His news photography experience has also led to his interviewing President George H. Bush, Ric Flair and Goldberg of WWE.
As a freelancer Ted has provided digital media services for clients such as CBS MaxPreps National High School Sports, BBN3 corporate productions, Brian Smith Construction & Inspection, The Steve Francis Summer Fiesta, NFL Player Jaime Sharper, National Urban League, and many others. In addition, Ted has worked in educational media as an instructor with the Jack Yates School of Communication, the Director & Instructor of the Hightower High School Digital Media Academy from 1999 until 2011, an adjunct professor with the Houston Community College Digital Film program, an adjunct professor with the Art Institute of Houston and finally a full-time instructor with the Art Institute.
Ted continues to freelance through his partnerships with BBN3 and CBS MaxPreps and as a producer on Straight Talk with Lloyd Gite where he has interviewed famous Americans, such as LIFE magazine world renown photographer Bob Gomel, Jesse Jackson, Zina Garrison and former heavy weight champion of the world George Foreman.
Ted’s community service extends to the National Fulbright Association after receiving a 2006 Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Fellowship. Ted is currently a member of the National Fulbright Association Houston chapter, the Sam Houston State University Alumni Board, the Xi Kappa Lambda chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and the National Press Photographers Association
Ted earned his BFA in Radio, TV & Film from the Sam Houston State University Dan Rather School of Communications in 1992, his Master of Arts in Telecommunications degree from Texas Southern University in 2003, a Japan Fulbright Memorial Fund Fellowship in 2006 and his certification in CBS 60 Minutes Style Production from the Maine International Film & Video Workshops in 2001. Ted also has a Texas Regional Emmy, a silver and bronze Telly award for outstanding production work.
