Judge Orders Sanctions Against Atlanta Police Department for Obstructing Filming Police Conduct

ATLANTA– On May 13, 2015, United States District Judge Steve C. Jones found the City of Atlanta in contempt of court and imposed sanctions for the city’s failure to comply with obligations set forward in a prior Court Order on behalf of a woman whose constitutional rights were violated when she was arrested as she peaceably photographed police activity in 2009.

Letter to U.S. Supreme Court Justice Roberts penned by members of the Coalition for Court Transparency

NPPA general counsel Mickey H. Osterreicher was part of a coalition that authored a letter to United States Supreme Court Chief Justice John G. Roberts today requesting audio-visual coverage of arguments in same-sex marriage cases that come before the Court. The letter to Justice Roberts penned by members of the Coalition for Court Transparency was released today.

NPPA General Counsel Mickey Osterreicher testified today,12/3/14, before a House Judiciary subcommittee in support of H.R. 917, The Sunshine in the Courtroom Act of 2013. Osterreicher told Members of Congress that "opening courts to electronic coverage is essential for the public to see that justice is being done, to be assured of the integrity of the process, and to better understand how decisions are made."
