5 ways to get ready for the Northern Short Course

This year's Northern Short Course in Iselin, New Jersey, is only one week away. Held February 25-27th, the event will encompass three-days of speakers, dozens of workshops, portfolio critiquing, and more. Here are some ways to prepare to take on the 2016 Northern Short Course

The Board of Directors of the Northern Short Course in Photojournalism are pleased to announce Victoria Sarno Jordan is the recipient of the inaugural Michel du Cille Memorial Scholarship.

Northern Short Course Videos Now Online

Videos of some of the panel presentation's from this year's National Press Photographers Association's Northern Short Course are now online for viewing.

NPPA NSC Print Auction Supports Michel du Cille Fund

The Michel du Cille Memorial Scholarship Fund will continue his mission by sending student photojournalists – who could otherwise not afford to attend – to the NPPA Northern Short Course where they will be inspired and challenged. To support the Fund, photojournalists from around the world have donated images to a print auction.

Special Ethics Session from the NPPA Northern Short Course

In light of recent events concerning ethical practices, NPPA has added a special session on the issue at its Northern Short Course this Friday evening, 3/13, at 7:30pm.

NSC/ WPOW Happy Hour at the NSC

The Northern Short Course is pleased to partner with WPOW (Women Photojournalists of Washington) for their March Monthly Happy Hour Thursday March 12th 6-9pm at the Nova Bar inside the atrium of the Hyatt Fairfax This event is open to all visual journalists. WPOW will also be hosting a raffle.

Patrick Smith, of Getty Images has been named the Northern Short Course Photographer of the Year. Mary Calvert, freelance, POY runner-up and Jahi Chikwendiu of The Washington Post placed third. Judging took place at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism February 6-7, 2015

2015 Wednesday Night Welcome and presentation

Join the NSC staff and volunteers Wednesday March 11th at 8pm for dessert and coffee followed by a special preentation by Jamie Rose, "Present Yourself Like a Pro: A field guide to the NSC."  A veteran NSC attendee and presenter, Jamie Rose will give you the inside tips on making yourself memorable and creating valuable contacts at conference, interviews and networking events. At her job with Momenta, Jamie sees hundreds of portfolios, business cards and presentations a year from freelancers and pros alike.

NSC Faculty member Barbara Davidson named POYi Newspaper Photographer of the Year

COLUMBIA, MO (February 11, 2014) – Barbara Davidson, a staff photojournalist for the Los Angeles Times, achieved premier honors as the 2013 Newspaper Photographer of the Year in the 71st annual Pictures of the Year International (POYi) competition.

Davidson’s award-winning portfolio was chosen during the first five-day session of the three week judging period.
