NPPA Founders Certificates were awarded in 1955.
The NPPA Board of Directors will conduct their annual meeting January 16 - 17 in Durham, NC.
The following resolutions will be considered. They were approved on December 31 by Clyde Meuller, Resolutions Chair.
The winners of the November Board election were Mark Dolan and Todd Maisel. They took office on January 1, 2012, and will serve a three-year term.
Michael P. King was elected National Secretary at the 2012 Annual Board Meeting on January 22nd. His seat on the board has been filled by Jim Michalowski, based on the results of the 2011 Board election.
The next election will be held in April for the position of Regional Chairs' Representative.

The name of the association is the National Press Photographers Association, Inc., hereinafter referred to as NPPA.
The National Press Photographers Association is dedicated to the advancement of visual journalism, its creation, practice, training, editing and distribution, in all news media and works to promote its role as a vital public service.
WHEREAS, the NPPA has an interest in utilizing mutually beneficial partnerships with regional state, and local visual journalism organizations for the purposes of education, advocacy, marketing, and recruitment;
Be it RESOLVED, “Professional Chapters” in NPPA’s Policies and Procedures document shall be rewritten to read:
This resolution aims to ensure that our organization is properly and consistently marketed and branded in communications and at its events. NPPA currently lacks established standards in these areas. Consistency in these areas does matter to the success of an organization, whether a for-profit firm or 501-type organizations. In an organization with many volunteers involved in it’s governance in many corners of the country, efforts should be made to keep them on the same page and appearing cohesive.
WHEREAS, student outreach is a high priority of the National Press Photographers Association; and
WHEREAS, student chapters are NPPA’s primary means of performing such outreach and recruiting members; and
WHEREAS, faculty advisors of such student chapters are deserving of the organization’s consideration for sacrificing their time to start chapters, maintain chapters, and increase student membership and participation; and
WHEREAS, these faculty advisors are vital links between NPPA and students themselves;
WHEREAS, the Board of Directors (the board) of the National Press Photographers Association (NPPA) holds elections for National Officers annually; and
WHEREAS, in any election it is important for voters to make informed and deliberated decisions; and
WHEREAS, the current wording of NPPA’s Policies and Procedures document is unclear regarding the nomination process for such elections;
Be it RESOLVED, paragraph 2 of “Election of National Officers” in NPPA’s Policies and Procedures shall be rewritten to read:
There should be an across-the-board consistent approach to issuing plaques for winners of contests.
There has been no plaque issued for the winner of the Best Use of Photography contest for the past two years. In the past we had issued plaques for the top three winners; three years ago, to save money, we issued a plaque only to the first place winner.
